Sand and Aggregates

As any budding builder or gardener will know, sand and aggregates are vital components of any project that is to be undertaken: be it the use of gravel in building a path or driveway, specialist sand for laying paving blocks when building a patio or even grit for potting cacti or mixing compost.

There is a wide range of specialist and multi-purpose sand and aggregates available that are certain to meet whatever building and gardening needs that one could possibly have. Sand, for instance, is available in several forms for use in building work. These include Block Paving Sand, used for laying stones, sets and paving blocks, and standard Builders Sand, both of which are available in large quantities. Sand can also be used for gardening purposes, Sharp Sand and Silver Sand, for instance, are also available in both small and large sizes and can be used in potting composts and for dressing lawns. However, sand can also feature in children’s recreational activities as Play Sand is also available for use in children’s sand pits.

Gravel is also available in many forms to suit many different purposes and are also available in a range of colours, making any project more aesthetically pleasing. Golden Gravel, Red Chipping, Spanish White and slate chips, ranging from 10-20mm in size, can each be used for decorative ornamental effect whereas Potting Grit can be used either in the mixing of compost or for planting cacti and similar plants. Standard gravel on the other hand is available in sizes ranging from 10mm to 40mm and can be used in the building of paths and driveways and even if there is some left over after finishing a building task, it can be used for lining the bottom of a fish tank.
